Web hosting
Ambit New Media hosts its clients web sites on Windows 200 servers linked to the BT internet backbone. We only host business/organization/church sites and run the internet connection well below its maximum capacity. The result is a fast and excellent hosting provision using the latest software. We are also happy to arrange hosting with our partner Netkonect for clients requiring higher bandwidth or 24x7 access to technical support.
The annual charge for web hosting depends on the services required. We will be pleased to give you a quotation based upon your needs. Our standard account, which is suitable for a small business or organization, offers:
- Up to 15Mb web space on Windows 2000 server
- A POP3 e-mail account with multiple aliases
- Browser access to your e-mail account - ideal for accessing mail when out of the office
- A very simple to use form to e-mail script for collecting on-line information
The cost is £75 pa which includes a 25% discount for charity and religious organizations. Additional e-mail accounts can be set up at £10 pa. We can register a UK domain name for £25 pa or a .com/.net domain for £35 pa. We are also resellers with CentralNic for .uk.com and .uk.net domains.
Web design
We can offer web design, either through our professional designers (based in our Newcastle office) or by using bought-in templates. Please see our main site at http://www.ambitnewmedia.com for examples of our design work.
Domain names
We can register UK and .com/.net/.info domain names. Please complete the form on the contact page. To register domains we use UKReg (see www.ukreg.com). We are also resellers for CentralNic, who handle the .uk.com and .uk.net domains.
We always register domain names in the name of the client and never in our own name. You therefore retain the right to the name independently of us. We do not charge to move a domain name away from us.
For church use, we manage the domains church.uk.net and parishchurch.org.uk. Churches can obtain sub-domains (such as www.stmarys.church.uk.net) of these domains.
If you already have a domain name, you may use this domain on our servers for your web site and e-mail. Please contact us and we will talk your through the transfer process. We reserve the right to make a charge for transferring in a domain name for use on our servers.
We can also submit your domain name to general and Christian search engines/directories.
Mailing lists
Many Christian organizations need to e-mail their supporters on a regular basis. We can set up a mailing list on our server so that you can regularly e-mail hundreds or thousands of people simply by sending a single e-mail to the list. Supporters can add or remove their own names from the list and, for the list administrator, there is web access for adding names in bulk.
Database
Ambit New Media specialise in providing database access on web sites. This may be required to place a sales catalogue on-line, for e-commerce or for news items. We have developed our own scripts which make it easy for web pages to retrieve data from databases. Most small sites are adequately served with Microsoft's Access 2000 database, though larger sites may require SQL Server.
Running a database makes more demands on a web server and we reserve the right to increase the hosting charge depending on the applications running on your web site. We will be pleased to demonstrate to you our database-driven web sites. These take the burden out of web site maintenance as they allow people without web or HTML skills to add or update content on the site. As an example of a news page, visit http://news.testweb.co.uk.
E-commerce
Ambit New Media has designed and hosts a number of e-commerce sites. These use the popular VP-ASP software which is highly configurable.
Statistics
Full server logs can be supplied on request. If you would also like these logs analysed, we can supply a licence for WebTrends, the leading web log analysis software. This will provide monthly reports on the people using your site.
